Plant With Us This Saturday

As Boxerwood celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, we’re marking the occasion by growing an even healthier and more resilient landscape for our community. Thanks to support from the Virginia Trees for Clean Water Grant through the Virginia Department of Forestry, eighteen new native trees and shrubs will soon take root along Boxerwood’s streams and ponds.

To help make this project possible, Boxerwood is seeking volunteers to assist with planting as part of our grant match. We invite all Boxerwood members, supporters, and community friends to join us on Saturday, May 30, from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Families are especially encouraged to participate together as we put the stewardship values we teach into action and work together to leave a lasting legacy for our community and environment.

These new plantings will strengthen the garden’s riparian buffers—the vital vegetated areas beside waterways that help protect water quality, reduce erosion, absorb stormwater during heavy rains, and provide habitat for birds, pollinators, and other wildlife. Because our water flows into Woods Creek, then to the Maury River, and then to the James River, these efforts have an impact far beyond the garden itself, helping improve the health of waterways that eventually flow all the way to the Chesapeake Bay.

Community tree plantings do more than improve the environment—they bring people together who share a commitment to stewardship and caring for the natural world. Many Boxerwood students still remember the trees they planted years ago, and we hope this event creates the same meaningful memories for local families.

If you would like to participate, please use this registration link to let us know you plan to attend. This volunteer opportunity is open to everyone in our community, and we would love to have you join us.
