OVERVIEW

The ED is the CEO of Boxerwood Education Association, providing leadership for a dynamic environmental education organization operating a 15-acre woodland garden and facilitating educational programming in various ways throughout the community. This senior leadership role entails strategic thinking, operational excellence, and entrepreneurial drive to advance Boxerwood’s mission while ensuring organizational sustainability and stability. The ED’s salary is in the $35K-$45K range. This position fluctuates between 20 and 35 hrs per week and requires flexibility for occasional evening events, programs, and seasonal demands. The ED reports to the Board of Directors, oversees all Boxerwood staff, and directly supervises three staff members: Boxerwood’s Program Director, Operations Director, and Development Coordinator/Bookkeeper.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

People Management and Organizational Structure

  • Oversee all Boxerwood staff and directly supervise Program Director, Operations Director, and Development Coordinator/Bookkeeper

  • Collaborate with leadership team (including PD and OD) to ensure effective and efficient execution of BEA in keeping with its mission and strategic plan

  • Oversee all aspects Boxerwood organizational structure and programming including regular program assessments

  • Engage in Strategic Planning process with Board of Directors and oversee the implementation of the resulting strategic plan(s)

Fundraising and Financial Lead 

  • Take primary responsibility for fundraising efforts including donation solicitation from individuals and businesses, grant writing and management, and revenue generation

  • Oversee budget development and implementation alongside Board of Directors and Finance Committee

  • Ensure all application tax payments, certifications, and forms are completed on time

Community Outreach

  • Serve as the public representative of Boxerwood at community events including grant award ceremonies, community festivals, and other networking events

  • Facilitate operation of the Boxerwood Education Association Board of Directors including preparation of financial reports for BoD meetings and attendance at said meetings

  • Coordinate external communications including Newsletters, Press Releases, Feature Stories, website, social media, posters, etc.

IDEAL SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Commitment to the Boxerwood mission: Educating and inspiring people of all ages to become successful stewards of the earth.

  • Experience in Non-Profit Management including staff management and mentoring

  • Fundraising experience including: 

    • Grant Administration and Writing

    • Donation Solicitation

    • Fundraiser Facilitation

  • Excellent communication skills

    • Interpersonal communication

    • Ability to have hard conversations

    • Written communication

    • Public speaking

  • Financial Literacy and budget management with budgets in excess of $400k/year

  • Experience with Excel, and ability to learn website CMS tools, email marketing tools, accounting,  personnel, and donor management platforms
