Kicking off our 2026 season this Friday, May 29th, is Dennis and Steve. Dennis Thorne is a Virginia native with a lifelong career in music, beginning in church and expanding to clubs, venues, and stages across the country. Joining him is acclaimed multi-instrumentalist Steve Hoke, known for his soulful, virtuosic playing. A former member of Ironhorse, Loco Pony, Walker’s Run and more, Hoke’s style blends country, rock, and bluegrass with technical precision and taste.

Honest Labor, known for their bluesy tone, follows on June 12th. Honest Labor plays a wide variety of music genres, but all are centered on the blues. They are all highly accomplished players as individuals, though their music's focus is not on virtuosity, but on groove, tone, passion, and the rapport between the players. The core members of the band are Billy Friar on guitar and lead vocals, Lee Sauder on harmonicas, and Travis Weaver on bass. You never know who else might be there.

For both concerts, musicians take the stage at 6:30pm and conclude at 8:00pm as the sun goes down. The gate opens at 5:30 pm so that early arrivers can meet up with friends to picnic, socialize, or get a bite to eat. A food truck will be serving food for purchase at most of our shows.

Admission to Music in the Garden is free for kids and current Boxerwood Garden members and $5 per adult for non-members. There's no charge for parking in the field. There is dedicated handicapped parking and the terrain is suitable for wheelchairs.

Attendees may bring their own beverages, lawn chairs and blankets. Friendly, leashed dogs are welcome as long as owners clean up after them. Pack out your own trash. In the event of rain, concerts will be postponed. Consult Boxerwood social media and/or the Boxerwood website for more information, including “iffy” weather updates and food truck posts.
