The Meadow

A natural burial ground

Before 2025, The Meadow was not a part of Boxerwood's property, though it was part of the original Munger property. In July of 2025, The Meadow's 4.8 acres of land came into the Boxerwood Education Association (BEA) fold. The green cemetery was created by two of the founders of BEA, Hunter Mohring and Karen Bailey (KB). They love the natural world and wanted to create a place where people could put their own Earth care values into action, as a final legacy.  In The Meadow, those who have passed are buried in a cloth shroud or in a simple wooden box, without the process of embalming. Cremated remains can also be buried or scattered. Without chemicals or treated caskets, the remains decompose more quickly, returning to the Earth for new cycles of regeneration. In this way, one's final act becomes a lasting testimony to natural bounty.

The Meadow at Boxerwood fits well with our mission "to educate and inspire people of all ages to become stewards of the Earth". Some proceeds from the sale of burial plots helps to maintain the entire Woodland Garden property. Visitors are welcome to wander through The Meadow and enjoy the Japanese Maples and other flowering plants and trees in this hallowed area. Please be respectful, as this is a sacred space, and practice Leave No Trace principles as we do in all areas of Boxerwood.
