Boxerwood Gardens: Nature Center and Woodland Garden
The water is finally discharged into this Rain Garden outside and downhill from the Greenhouse. The wastewater from the Welcome Center has gone through Media Filters and Constructed Wetlands. It has been exposed to Ultraviolet Light. We believe it is as safe as any other water you would find outside, but just to be sure, we suggest that you refrain from playing here.
The Rain Garden slows the water and offers it an opportunity to sink into the ground or be taken up by the plants here. Any overflow flows into the pond. The process is now "completed" by our wastewater going back into nature.
(Other pipes discharging into the Rain Garden are simple gutters.)
