These programs took place last fall:
Ages 2-3 – “All Fall Down” Children gathered leaves, acorns, seeds – what falls from trees in fall. They learned an acorn song and created autumn art
Ages 4-5 – “The Sky is Falling!” Preschoolers met Chicken Little and joined her and her animal friends as they spread the bad news: ”The sky is falling!” Finally a squirrel teaches everyone a lesson about acorns and what happens after trees drop them. Students made acorn-stamp art in journals that retold the story of an acorn.
Ages 4-5 “A Long Winter’s Nap (taking place now) Preschools learn about hibernation firsthand from Woodchuck Chuck, a drowsy groundhog who wakes up briefly from his long winter’s nap to visit them and Chatter the Squirrel.
Grade One – “Seed Travelers” Students compiled a travel guide to the natural world – for seeds! Using a map, they hiked woods and meadow, gathering tree and plant seeds and categorized their seeds by how they disperse.
Grade Two – “Adapt or Die” Students explored animal adaptation and survival along our paths and ponds. As they observed changes occurring as fall cycles into winter, they learned how animals use camouflage to trick their predators and how animals prepare for migration, hibernation, and dormancy.
Winter Outreach Program: A Long Winter's Nap for Ages 4-5.
