What is the Boxerwood Education Association? BEA is a non-profit organization founded in 2000 whose mission is to educate and inspire people of all ages toward becoming successful and responsible stewards of the Earth. BEA is also a membership organization.

How did Boxerwood get its name? Dr. Munger's family owned 14 Boxer dogs.  He had been collecting trees and shrubs for about 8 years and was transplanting some boxwoods when a friend commented, "You ought to name your garden Boxerwood."

How many acres is Boxerwood?  The total Boxerwood site is 30 acres, of which approximately 15 acres are naturalistically planted.

How long does it take to see everything? At the least, give an hour or so to walk the "main" paths. The longer you are here, and the more often you come, you will discover something new; the possibilities seem endless.

What about parking? We have two parking lots. The first (on the right as you enter from Ross Road) is larger and is for general use. The second, closer to Munger Lodge, should be used by the less hearty in that it gets you closer to the heart of the garden.

How do I tour the gardens? On foot. Most paths are grass and easily traversed. Some still reflect the original narrow and rough terrain. Wear good supportive shoes. Dr. Munger did not design Boxerwood with the public in mind; he created footpaths between beds and other areas that allowed him the access he needed. It can be easy to trip over roots, etc.

Do you allow wedding ceremonies, wedding receptions, or other private parties? If an individual or organization wants to hold an event, they may submit a request.* Read the rules for rentals.  Birthday Parties: We receive many requests from families with young children who want to celebrate their birthdays on the Play Trail. Boxerwood member families may schedule birthday party celebrations on the Play Trail with at least two weeks advance notification. Cake and gift-giving activities should take place under the picnic tent across from the barn so that other families with children on the Play Trail will not feel left out. Non-member families must first join Boxerwood before requesting permission to schedule a birthday celebration on the Play Trail or in the gardens.

Can I get mulch at Boxerwood?  We have both leaf mulch and wood chips.  The loading/mulch charge is as follows:  $20 small load, $50 medium load, $100 dump truck load (with your own loading device -- ours is too short). If you load your own mulch, please consider a comparable donation to help us maintain the piles.  If you are going to need help with loading, please contact us in advance.

Is there a place to eat on the grounds of Boxerwood? We have no concession area. If you would like to bring a picnic, you are welcome. We have a couple of picnic tables for your use. Groups of 8 or fewer are welcome any time during regular hours. Larger group picnics are asked to schedule visits with us.
